About Us

Ravines Wine Cellars, based in Geneva, NY has been making dry, expressive, terroir-driven wines for the last 19 years. Long admired as one of the top wineries in the Finger Lakes, Ravines has continually gained noteworthy press, high scores and international accolades. We currently operate two tasting rooms; The Hammondsport tasting room overlooks Keuka Lake and our main cellar, kitchen and tasting room sits on the White Springs Vineyard next to Seneca Lake in Geneva, inside a renovated, neo-rustic style barn.
Ravines is family-owned and operated, led by husband and wife team, Morten and Lisa Hallgren. Morten was raised and trained as an oenologist/winemaker in France, but has called the Finger Lakes home since moving to the region with Lisa in 1998 with the goal of making classical, old-world style wine. Ravines now owns 130 acres of steep-sloping, estate vineyards on limestone and shale stone soils. We utilize minimal intervention in the cellar and employ sustainable winegrowing practices to produce elegant wines with vibrant complexity.
In the early 2000s Ravines pioneered the bone-dry, mineral-tinged riesling style that has become the Finger Lakes flagship wine to critical acclaim. Eric Asimov of the NY Times previously wrote, "New York Rieslings don’t come any better than those from Ravines." Whether you're most drawn to red, white, bubbly or the occasional aperitif or or dessert wine, Ravines is a standard-bearer Finger Lakes winery, consistently producing authentic and delicious and age-worthy wines.
